Say hello to Zee Zee!

Zee Zee bounced around between a few different homes, to no fault of her own, before finding her way to the SPCA and now she's looking for that special place to finally settle down in and call her own. While her story didn't have the happiest of starts, we are looking to find her happily ever after. Zee came to us somewhat under socialized and lacking many of the life skills a dog of her age should have. Because of this, Zee is looking for a dog-savvy adopter who understands her unique needs and is committed to providing a supportive environment where she can thrive. With consistent training and positive reinforcement, she's sure to gain confidence and become more comfortable in her own fur.

She is not suited for a loud or busy home, a home with small children, puppies, or other animals. Zee Zee has been through a lot in her three years, so what she needs most in life is a stable and calm home. Despite her initial anxiety, Zee Zee has a heart of gold and a playful spirit just waiting to shine. She loves nothing more than cuddling up with her favorite humans and showing off her goofy side with a game of fetch or a romp in the yard. Zee has immediately stolen the hearts of everyone here with her goofy smile and loveable personality; she's truly one of a kind. She is a very strong, active girl and it's important that adopters are able to keep her exercise needs met and are able to handle a strong dog (she's still learning her leash manners!)

Due to her history, she can has shown signs of having separation anxiety. It is extremely important that any potential adopter understands this kind of behavioral challenge and is prepared and informed. If you open up your heart to Zee, in return you'll get the most loyal, goofy companion you could ever want. If you think Zee Zee could be a good fit for you, please contact the Kamloops branch with any further questions or fill out an application below.

Meet PeeWee and Tiki! This beautiful pair of bonded budgies are seeking a new forever home. They enjoy chirping to each other and their caretakers, giving each other kisses, and playing with their bell toys. Their wings are not clipped and they do fly! Their previous owner was able to handle, hold, and cuddle them, but they're still new here so we are working on building trust with these two to be able to handle them with ease. Adopters should be prepared to continue to work with them to bring them out of their shells and allow their true personalities to blossom.

Budgies require specialized care, diet, and housing. Adopters will need to show knowledge of their requirements and provide pictures of their set up. If you're interested in these two, please visit them in person during our visiting hours or submit an application to our email, [email protected]!

Say "Hello" to Mooncake!

Moonie is not quite ready to be adopted, and we are currently searching for someone who is willing to go through a Foster to Adopt trial, as her situation and behavioral issues are so complex.

While Ms. Moon's story didn't have the happiest of starts, we are looking to find her happily ever after. Mooncake came to us from a large group of dogs who were all extremely under socialized and lacking many of the life skills a dog of her age should have. She has come a long way in the short while she has been with us, and she will certainly continue to blossom with patience, love, and gentle training. Once she has had some time to adjust to a new environment and feels safe, Moonie opens up, and shows her easy going and happy personality.

Mooncake is looking for an experienced and knowledgeable home - being as under socialized as she is, she will require a lot of patience, training, and an understanding of dog body language and cues. She is not suited for a loud or busy home, a home with small children, puppies, or other animals. She has plenty of experience living with other dogs so a calm, confident K9 companion may help her settle into a home. Butterscotch has been through a lot in her five years, so what she needs most in life is a stable and calm home.

Due to her history, she shows a lot of anxiety and fearfulness and can be easily spooked. It is extremely important that any potential adopter understands this kind of behavioral challenge and is prepared and informed.
A home with no young children or high energy dogs is ideal for this sweet girl. She doesn't have a lot of experience with other dogs, and we don't know how she feels about making friends with cats. She has been working on house training and has shown a lot of improvement! If you think Mooncake could be a good fit for you please contact the Kamloops branch with any further questions or fill out an application below.

Good day, my name is Nougat!

I am not quite ready to be adopted, and am currently searching for someone who is willing to go through a Foster to Adopt trail (with the intent of adoption), as my situation and behavioral issues are so complex.

My story didn't have the happiest of beginnings, and I am ready to find my happily ever after. I came to the SPCA from a large group of dogs who were all extremely under socialized and lacking many of the life skills a dog of my age should have. I have come a long way in the short while I have been here, and will continue to blossom with patience, love, and gentle training. Once I have had some time to adjust to a new environment and feel safe, I open up and am a sweet, lil gentleman.

I am looking for an experienced and knowledgeable home - being as under socialized as I am, I require a lot of patience, training, and an understanding of dog body language and cues. I am a sensitive guy, and would not enjoy a loud or busy home, a home with small children, or puppies, however, I do have plenty of experience living with other dogs, so a calm, friendly, confident K9 companion may help me settle into a new home. I've been through a lot in my two years of life, so what I need most is a stable and calm home.

Due to my history, I show a lot of anxiety and fearfulness and can be easily spooked. It is extremely important that any potential adopter understands this kind of behavioral challenge and is prepared and informed. I need some help with house and leash training, but I am learning and improving every day! If you think I could be a good fit for you, please contact the Kamloops branch with any further questions or fill out an application below.

Meet Irwin, a delightful lil bundle of fur, with a heart as big as those adorable puppy eyes. Irwin is a Shepherd cross. At just 10 weeks old, this lovable lil man is ready to embark on a lifetime of adventures with a caring and committed family. Irwin's heart is brimming with love, and all he needs now is a furever home to share it with. If you're ready for the pitter-patter of widdle paws, the sound of joyful barks, and the unconditional love only a puppy can provide, consider making Irwin a part of your family.

Adopters should be prepared for all the fun, mess, and chaos that comes with adopting a puppy. We highly recommend puppy training classes with an AnimalKind certified trainer to all puppy adopters. Proper socialization at this young age is super important. We don't know how Irwin will feel about sharing his home with another dog, cat, small animal, or small child, but with slow introductions we think he will be happy to have someone else to love. He certainly loves playing and wrestling with his sibling!

Adopting a puppy is a big commitment and potential adopters are urged to consider the long term needs of a furry friend, not just the immediate fun.

An adoption counselling session with our Adoption Staff is necessary before adopting any animal.

Do you think you could be Irwin's person? Here are some ways to find out:

1. Visit our centre to meet this pet, learn more about their ideal match and apply to adopt in person; or
2. Submit an online application https://spca.bc.ca/survey/dog-adoption-application-kamloops and staff will contact the first suitable adopter to set-up a visit!

Hamsters don't often come to mind when thinking of a rescue pet, but even little guys like Timbit need love. Timbit came to us from a loving family who had to move away and was unable to bring him with. Like most hamsters who are nocturnal, this little guy sleeps a lot during the day. However, he does enjoy rolling around in his little exercise ball sometimes and he loves running in his exercise wheel. He is gentle and easy to handle. His favorite thing to do is burrow deep down into his pile of fluff and make a nice, cozy nest for himself. He is a fairly quiet guy just looking for a home to call his own. Adopters should show knowledge of proper Hamster care and set up so Timbit can have a good diet and plenty of enrichment to keep him happy and healthy.

Does Timbit sound like the pet for you? To apply, please fill out an application form below and send to [email protected] along with a picture of your intended set up. As with all small animals and reptiles, we strongly encourage potential adopters to do some research on the individual needs of their new family member.

Meet Gizmo and Ebony, a dynamic duo of sisterly love waiting for a place to call home. Gizmo is a little more sweet and shy, while Ebony is more outgoing but does have a spicy side to her. These pretty sisters are often found cuddled near each other and are looking for a family that will embrace them both with open arms. Whether they're chasing each other around the house or snuggled up together for a cozy nap, Gizmo and Ebony promise to fill your home with double the love and double the joy. Bring these sweet sisters into your life, and let their endless affection light up your days. They can be a bit anxious in new environments and will need some love, a patient hand, and time to adjust in their new home. They are used to being indoor only cats and have lived with other cats and a dog before so would likely be fine in a multi-pet home with proper, slow introductions. Because they are a bit anxious and Ebony can be sassy they would do best in a home without young children.
Gizmo is a bit overweight and would benefit from a good diet to help her slim down a bit. She also was born missing some toes on her front paws. Due to this she has developed cutaneous horns on her front paws that do need to be maintained with regular trimming at home just like her regular nails. SPCA staff can give more information.
Adopt Gizmo and Ebony today, and welcome a lifetime of feline companionship into your heart.

If you are interested in adopting these two, follow these steps:
1. Visit our centre to meet this pet, learn more about their ideal match and apply to adopt in person; or
2. Submit an online application https://spca.bc.ca/survey/cat-adoption-application-kamloops and staff will contact the first suitable adopter to set-up a visit!

They have lived with other cats and dogs before so would likely be fine in a multi-pet home with proper, slow introductions. Adopt Gizmo and Ebony today, and welcome a lifetime of feline companionship into your heart.

Despite his large size, Duke is a gentle big boy with a heart full of love. He adores human companionship and thrives on affection, often leaning into his humans for cuddles and belly rubs. Duke is happiest when he's curled up on the couch next to his favorite person. He has a calm and easygoing demeanor, making him a joy to be around.
Don't let his age fool you, besides enjoying long naps and cuddle sessions on the couch, Duke is an active pooch who loves daily walks and outdoor adventures. Whether it's exploring the neighborhood, hiking out on the trails, or splashing around at the beach, Duke is always up for an adventure. He's also very playful and loves his stuffed toys AND STICKS! The bigger the stick the better!
While Duke is generally friendly with other dogs and has lived in a multi pet home, proper introductions are key to ensuring positive interactions. With slow introductions, Duke has shown good manners and enjoys the company of canine friends.
Although Duke's interactions with cats haven't been formally tested in shelter, he reportedly has a lived with them previously and likes cats, but will require slow introductions to new felines in a home as he sometimes gets excited and likes to chase smaller animals. Squirrel!
As Duke enters his golden years, like many senior dogs he is showing arthritic changes and some stiffness. Like any senior animal he should have regular vet check ups to monitor his health and mobility needs. He may potentially require management with medication in the future and a home without a lot of stairs would probably be best since he's a big boy. Duke remains resilient and eager to live life to the fullest.
Duke's ideal home is one filled with love, patience, and plenty of snuggle sessions. He would thrive in a calm and stable environment where he can receive the attention and affection he craves. A family willing to provide him with regular exercise, mental stimulation, and proper medical care would be perfect for Duke. Additionally, a cozy bed where he can sleep beside his humans at night would make him truly content. This sweet senior is an absolute joy to have in your home! Dog savvy older children would likely be fine with Duke but really young kids who jump all over him isn't his cup of tea.
Overall, Duke is a remarkable dog with so much love to give. If you're looking for a loyal and affectionate companion to share your life with, Duke may be the perfect match for you.
