VIDEO: Kamloops Cowboy Fest musicians give web performance

Cowboys take music online

While the 2020 edition of the Kamloops Cowboy Festival has been cancelled, some musicians decided the show must go on.

Tom Cole, a singer/songwriter from Charlie Lake in northern B.C., had been planning on playing at the festival this past weekend. However, due to COVID-19, the shows were cancelled and everyone stayed home.

But Cole decided that he'd still play a set in honour of the festival, and looped in three other musicians. The four men — Cold Lake-based bassist Mike Dygert, Okotoks's Jim McLennan on guitar and Salmon Arm's Beau Hughes on steel slide guitar — linked up from their homes via the internet and recorded together.

"I thought I would do a couple songs anyway because I was really looking forward to (it)," he says in the video.

The 13-minute clip includes a trio of songs along with some banter and storytelling.

"Thank you very much for stopping by," he says at the end of the video. Check it out below.
