Music festival and slo-pitch tourney cancelled due to COVID-19

Funtastic cancelled

Another major Okanagan event has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vernon's Funtatstic Sports Society announced this morning the music festival and slo-pitch tournament has been cancelled.

The annual event draws thousands of people to Vernon's Department of National Defence grounds and dozens of teams from across Canada to ball diamonds across the North Okanagan.

"It is with sad hearts and concern for the community that the 2020 Funtastic A&W Music Festival and Slo-pitch Tournament to be held June 26-30 is being cancelled due to the COVID-19 (pandemic)," organizers posted on its Facebook page.

"In light of the growing concerns around COVID-19, we've made the difficult decision to cancel," said president Ryan McGivern.

"The unknown duration of the pandemic has the directors of the Funtastic Sports Society concerned for the health and safety of the participants. We hope to see you in 2021."

Satellite locations in Enderby and Port Alberni will also be cancelled.

All teams registered in Vernon will be contacted and will have the opportunity to register early for next year.

The music festival was to have included Aaron Pritchett, Toque, and Darby Mills.

Organizers are working on next year's lineup, and expect to have tickets available online beginning July 1.

"A huge thank you to all the sponsors, ball players, music enthusiasts, volunteers and community for their support, and we look forward to coming back even better in 2021," the society said.
