Summerland woman's parrot, Polly, stuck up a tree

Talkative parrot stuck in tree

"Good morning, good morning!"

That's all a talkative parrot in Summerland will say to his owner Thursday morning, after escaping Wednesday and finding himself stuck atop a nearby pine tree.

"I think he's just scared. He's very attached to me, so I was shocked when he flew away," owner Kimberly Cox said.

Polly the parrot flew away around 3 p.m. Wednesday when Cox was moving him to an outdoor cage to get a little sunshine.

She was sick with worry overnight, thinking he might not survive the cold. But when she rushed out to check on him Thursday morning, he was still there, talkative as ever.

"He's like, 'Good morning! Good morning!' and I'm like 'Yes, good morning, now get down here!'"

Cox estimates he's at least 25 feet up.

"He's used to being out of his cage at home, but not outside," she explained. "I think he's scared to fly out, maybe because he's too high or something."

Cox has been trying to coax Polly down. He knows the sound of her voice, and usually responds to her calls for kisses. She and Polly have been inseparable since she adopted him last summer.

But no luck so far, and Cox is now reaching out for ideas on how to get him down.

Anyone with ideas or equipment they believe may be helpful can reach Cox at 250-404-9013. She and Polly live in the 17000 block of Snow Avenue in Summerland.
