City to spend $65,000 at Penticton Yacht Club

Gas dock getting upgrade

Okanagan Lake Marina is getting the necessary funds to upgrade its gas dock.

Penticton city council approved spending $65,000 during its regular meeting Tuesday. The money will come from the marina reserve account.

Council addressed the issue after receiving a letter from the Penticton Yacht Club, which leases the site from the city.

“The public pier and dock have a safety hazard which has developed under the water for the past five years or so. Due to the fluctuating high and low lake levels, the public pier and dock bottom out on land and sit directly on the lake bottom,” explained Marc Tougas from the yacht club.

“The condition of the pier and dock area causes safety and environmental concerns, as well as compromising fuel delivery lines to the gas dock pumps.”

The Penticton Yacht Club plans to replace a portion of the fuel dock with a longer on-land section — and a pivoting ramp that joins the on-land section to the floating section. The club will also replace the fuel lines.

The yacht club is currently working on a five-year plan to repair docks, and provide upgrades to fire suppression systems.

The city is already planning to spend $40,000 to upgrade the concrete boat ramp adjacent to the gas dock. That work expected to take place over the next few months.
