Wildfire near Chase larger after more accurate mapping

Chase fire remains held

A wildfire near Chase is still considered "held," but has been sized at five hectares after a more accurate track of the fire.

The fire broke out in steep terrain Tuesday, near homes northeast of the Shuswap community.

The BC Wildfire Service says the Chief Jules Way fire is not likely to spread beyond its existing boundaries.

The terrain has been challenging for crews, the wildfire service says, but hand guards have been built around both flanks of the fire.

Smoke may remain visible for the next few days, it advises.

Meanwhile, another fire northwest of Cache Creek, is now classified as under control.

The Big Bar fire is located about five kilometres north of the Highway 97-Highway 99 junction and was first reported Wednesday.

The BC Wildfire Service says the fire responded well to efforts by four personnel and has received sufficient suppression action to ensure no further spread.

It is estimated at 0.2 hectares in size.
