RCMP searching for armed thieves after Castlegar home invasion

RCMP hunt armed thieves

RCMP are on the lookout for three suspects involved in a violent home invasion and theft in Castlegar Wednesday morning.

Officers are searching for a red 2014 Jeep Cherokee, bearing British Columbia licence plates JB883N, which they believe was stolen from the victims home during an armed robbery April 8, 2020.

The home is in the 2600-block of 5th Avenue in Castlegar. RCMP tell Castanet that three unknown male suspects, in disguise, allegedly broke into the home while the occupants were sleeping and confronted them with various weapons.

"Once inside the suspects allegedly assaulted, and demanded money from the residents, while taking steps to physically restrain them. One of the victims managed to escape to a neighbouring residence to call 911 for help", states Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesperson for the RCMP Southeast District.

RCMP believe the incident was targeted and do not believe the general public is at any risk and are now asking for the public's help to spot the stolen vehicle.

"If spotted, police caution the public not to approach the vehicle, or any of its occupants and call 911 immediately," says Cpl. O'Donaghey.
