Taylor Swift has formed a new band to get her songs into films and TV shows without requiring Scooter Braun's permission.
Taylor's battle with Big Machine Label Group and her former label boss Scott Borchetta began last year, when he sold the company and with it her masters to Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande's manager Scooter without consulting her.
While the ME! singer has been vocal about her opposition to the move, she's revealed plans to re-record her old records to take back control - and according to Britain's The Sun newspaper, the process has begun.
A version of her 2017 hit Look What You Made Me Do featured on Monday's episode of BBC1 drama Killing Eve, with the track credited to new band Jack Leopards and the Dolphin Club.
According to the publication, the recording is the group's only song, and the band did not exist until Sunday evening, when the show aired in the U.S. Taylor later gushed over the track on Twitter, gushing she was "stoked" by the recording, while not revealing her involvement.
Band members include her brother Austin and Nils Sjoberg – which is reportedly Taylor's pseudonym – as well as songwriter Jack Antonoff and Fred and Richard Fairbrass, of Right Said Fred, who all have writing credits on the original 2017 track.
Taylor previously adopted the alternate moniker when she appeared as a writer on Calvin Harris and Rihanna's 2016 hit This Is What You Came For.
A source explained: "This is Taylor at her best – crafty and very, very clever. It's no coincidence that all the original credits are on this new version.
"The way the industry works is you don't need the label's permission, in this case Scooter's, to cover a song," they said. "It means Taylor can get around asking him for permission as well as not giving him a penny in royalties.
"It will no doubt have really peeved Scooter... It's a great way of getting round red tape as well as showing Scooter she won't be silenced. This is war."
Taylor is expected to re-record her first six albums, from her self-titled debut to 2017's Reputation.
