Seniors care is appalling

Re: Seniors care is adequate

I have been in an Ontario Care home as my aunt was living in one prior to her passing. Upon visiting her I was appalled at the condition of her room. It looked like it had not been cleaned for some time and to top of that, she felt she needed to hide food so it wasn't taken away from her. Sad state of affairs.

I could go on and on about what I saw as my heart broke. I also have witnessed what my mother went through, she paid more than $ 3,000 a month for her one bedroom apartment, cleaning was inadequate, meals were poor with very little variation of foods. The home care individuals, well that is another story.

Thank goodness, we her children had enough love and respect for her to make sure she lived in a clean place and provided food for her also. What about all those seniors who have no families or their families don't care how these individuals are living. They built this country and are treated like they don't count. My uncle is now in that same position. He doesn't complain as he feels there is no alternative for him. He is very disheartened by the way the elderly are treated not only in these care facilities but in the hospitals.

So to Debbie Fortais you may want to keep your head in the sand about the conditions of these care homes, but Kerry Kozak has it right
