Local singer, Scotty Berg had all of his live performances cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic but with restrictions being lifted he’s decided to get back out there are showcase his talents.

That’s where Priest Creek Family Estate Winery comes into play, they've started hosting live performances for local artists at their new winery on Saturday and Sunday from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. with proceeds going to charity.

All of the money that is donated to the artist and a portion of the sales from the winery will go to a local charity of the performer’s choice.

“Everyone’s going to come to drink some wine and enjoy some live music,” says Berg who chose BC’s Children Hospital Mental Health as his charity of choice.

Owner and operator of Priest Creek Family Estate Winery, Jane Sawin reached out to Berg to see if he’d be interested as the families have known each other for some time.

“We met Scotty back when he was five, one of my son’s played hockey with him and we’ve been following his music journey here so he was kind of out the first musician we wanted to have at Priest Creek.”

The new family-operated winery is looking for more local talent to perform during weekends in the summer hoping they can give the platform to kids trying to make it.

“They have really themselves have entered this world of the wineries with such grace and them taking and giving Scott the opportunity and the chance, it is lovely - I am so happy that it’s kind of a win-win situation,” says Shelley Berg, mother of Scott.

Charities, just like businesses struggled through the global crisis as many events put on to collect donations were also cancelled.

“[I] just wanted to support all the kids out there that are struggling with all their health problems, mental problems - just to help out,” adds Scott.

His mom, who’s a special needs teacher was so proud of his charity of choice.

“He in his own way came up with it being for BC Children’s [Hospital] and then it kind of got morphed into the mental health piece and I can’t even be prouder that he’s seeing that there is a need there and that the more that we can support those organization the better we’re all going to be.”

The weekend saw numerous smiling fans, which is his favourite part of performing.

“It’s just really refreshing not to just be at home and singing.”

The 13-year-old went viral across the nation for his covers in a Facebook group garnering over 90,000 on one of his videos.

“If you have something you love, keep pushing for it cause you never know what can happen,” says Scott who hopes kids continue to follow their passions and live out their dreams.

The pop and R&B singer will showcase his talents as a busker around the Okanagan this summer while the winery will continue to host as many local artists as they can this summer with proceeds going to local charities.
