B.C. announces 31 new COVID-19 cases, 6 deaths

31 new cases, 6 deaths

The provincial government announced Monday 31 new COVID-19 cases and six deaths in British Columbia since Friday.

One new case has been identified in the Interior Health region, bringing the total to 3 active cases.

The new cases bring the province’s total to 2978 confirmed cases. To date, 2629 people have fully recovered from the virus.

There are currently 166 active cases in the province. 16 people diagnosed with the COVID-19 virus are in hospital care and four are in ICU.

There have been no new outbreaks in the province, but 11 new cases in the four facilities that contain active outbreaks.

"This is obviously a very sombre day for us announcing the deaths of six people from COVID-19 in BC over the past three days," said Minister of Health Adrian Dix.

"We know the price that COVID-19 has taken from us as a whole community, we know and can identify that in many ways, but to lose six people all in long-term care over the last three days is a source of enormous grief for the families involved, for the caregivers involved, for the communities involved and we share that sense of loss, that sense of grief with them, and with 183 people and their families who have passed away from COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic in British Columbia.

"It is a moment, I think, of sorrow for all of us and we want to make sure that sorrow is felt, because I know people feel it throughout the province, for all those families who have lost their loved ones."
