Kamloops RCMP looking for female witness to alleged dog-biting assault

Assault witness sought

Kamloops Mounties are looking to speak to a woman who observed an assault on Tranquille last month.

On June 28 at 5 p.m., a man was walking along the road with his German shepherd. The pooch was off leash and repeatedly running into traffic, according to a news release from RCMP.

Police say the dog owner would call the dog back to him; however, if the dog didn't obey immediately, the man would grab and forcefully push the dog onto the sidewalk.

A woman walking by intervened and told the dog owner to stop; the man yelled at her and said that he would have his dog attack her.

Another man saw what was happening and told the dog owner to leave the woman alone. The suspect then allegedly pushed this man up against a wall and had his dog bite him. A third man saw this attack and stepped in to intervene. The suspect allegedly had his dog bite this man as well.

Police were called to the scene and were able to locate the suspect and the dog nearby, the release states.

"The man was arrested and all investigational information is being forwarded to the BC Prosecution Service who will determine what and if charges are appropriate," writes Cpl. Jodi Shelkie in the release.

The dog, meanwhile, was seized by bylaw officers.

Police say one victim was taken to hospital at the time of the altercation; the other victim sought medical attention after the incident. Both injuries were non-life threatening.

Mounties are looking for the woman who originally interacted with the suspect.

"The only description of the female is that she is short, has blond hair and walking south on Tranquille Road near Northills Mall," Shelkie says.

Anyone with information is asked to call the non-emergency line at 250-828-3000.
