Kam Comedy Fest sets dates for this fall

Comedy fest coming

COVID-19 has meant the cancellation of many festivals this year, but the Kam Comedy Fest is moving forward with three days of laughs in October.

At least two stages will be hosting shows Oct. 8 to 10, says MPRO 4 Entertainment's Drew McClean (who's also behind Kammerce Promotions), with a variety of COVID-19 protocols in place. (McLean says he's in contact with the province to confirm how it'll work.)

"We will be adhering to the provincial COVID-19 guidelines; currently, this means a maximum of 50 patrons per performance, with groups of up to six people who are socially distanced by two metres from other groups," he tells Castanet.

The plans came after he reached out via social media to see if there was interest in a festival of some sort. While there were some concerns around safety, McLean notes it was all positive.

With pandemic restrictions still in place and no complete end to them in sight, he says adaption is important.

"It's quite a fluid situation as I'm sure you can imagine, many businesses are doing the same," he says. "We all have to adjust accordingly — different boats but same sea as it were."

McLean's not announcing the venues yet, but says the first thing he did when booking space was ensure they could handle socially distanced groups.

Headliners are booked as well, though he's holding off on announcing who for now, as well.

"(There's) excitement from all of them with some uncertainty/apprehension to various levels as well, but in reaching out, I explained the approach that MPRO 4 Entertainment was taking to ensure everyone has an enjoyable experience in a safe environment," he explains.

McLean anticipates to announce more details, including headliners and ticket information, later this month. Those interested in tickets can contact him directly now, via email.
