Revelstoke RCMP are searching the Columbia River after receiving reports that a body was spotted floating in the water Sunday evening.

The reports said the possible body was spotted by the Big Eddy Bridge.

"Revelstoke RCMP immediately launched their vessel on the river to search and called upon Revelstoke Search and Rescue to assist," says Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey, spokesperson for the BC RCMP Southeast District. "Search and rescue crews also launched their boat to aid in the search on the water, and a helicopter from above."

The rescue operation resulted in the closing of the bridge on Sunday, but a body was not located. The search resumed Monday morning, with additional aircraft.
