Firefighters establish perimeter around fire burning east of Okanagan Falls

Wildfire perimeter set up

The Solco Creek fire is still standing at 13.8 hectares, but is currently not growing as fire crews have been able to establish a handline and a dozer guard around the perimeter of the fire.

The fire is currently smoldering and has little to no open flame.

The fire is east of Okanagan Falls and approximately 27 kilometres northeast of Oliver. Currently  the fire remains out of control, but no structures are threatened.

Two medium helicopters, a light helicopter, 41 personnel and heavy equipment are on sight continuing to fight the fire.

The fire started late Thursday evening and continued to grow in size until Saturday afternoon.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

The Solco Creek fire remains the largest reported wildfire in the Kamloops Fire Centre.

There are 14 spot-sized fires that were sparked during Friday night's lightning storm, but the BC Wildfire Service added that the rain in June and July should help support the suppression activities.
