Greater Vancouver Food Truck Festival visits Kelowna this weekend

Drive-thru food truck festival

The Greater Vancouver Food Truck Festival made its way to Kelowna on Saturday where six vendors served different food through a drive-thru style event.

"This is actually our first drive-thru food truck festival outside of the Lower Mainland," says owner and operator Jason Faria. "We brought a couple of our friends up from the Mainland, we're working with a bunch of local food trucks as well and we're just trying to provide people some alternatives and maybe some better food."

The festival started in 2014 which attracted thousands but due to COVID-19, the company transformed the event model into a drive-thru.

"We can't gather anymore, we can't have more than 50 people in one place," says Faria. "The drive-thru model allows these small businesses to have an avenue to still sell and put food on the table."

Six vendors are featured at this weekend's festival including, Surf Side California, Lemon Heaven, Ford Concessions Inc., Ogopogo Concessions, Next Gen. Concessions Inc. and REEL Mac And Cheese.

All vendors and staff are equipped with personal protective equipment to ensure everyone enjoys the festival safely. Patrons must remain in their vehicles, no eating is allowed on site and everyone who visits the event must provide contact information for contact tracing.

The event is set to run again on Sunday from 12 to 8 p.m. at the Prospera Place parking lot. For more information click here.
