UPDATE: 6:47 a.m.

The Kelowna Fire Department says a grass fire on the 2200 block of Springfield Road was quickly extinguished this morning.

Fire crews were alerted to the fire about 5 a.m., and upon arrival, responding units found a 30x30-foot fire on private property.

Platoon Capt. Tim Light says the fire was extinguished quickly using equipment from one of the department's bush units.

RCMP were called to attend, as there were shopping carts and other refuse found in the fire. 

The cause of the fire is undetermined until fire investigators complete their investigation.

No one was found at the scene, and there were no injuries.

One engine, a bush truck and a command vehicle attended, with eight personnel.

A fire was spotted early this morning near Kelowna's Mission Creek Regional Park.

Reader images show open flame and smoke billowing from the area along Springfield Road shortly after 5 a.m.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Kelowna Fire Department has yet to issue any information on the blaze.
