Governed by the 2%

Re: 'You're wrong, I'm right'

The above mentioned letter written by Sophie Harms is admirable both for its message and the quality of the writing.

That she is 17 is testament to there being hope for our youth for her message is spot on.

As a resident of this beautiful country, and being a person who likes to watch and see what people do, I have to say that it is amazing to me that there are so many people who are vehemently against wearing masks.

Looking back, the message that was pushed was that wearing masks wouldn't help in the spread of the virus, a message which even at the time, made zero sense but it was the message being promoted by our top medical officials.

Eventually though, they came to their senses. They attempted to back track on their original stance and now wanted us to get on board with the "wearing a mask won't prevent you from getting the virus but it will protect those of us who come into contact with you" idea.

Those who defy the rules in spite of the common sense nature of this new direction and the rules of the businesses who attempt to abide by the guidelines  set out by the unfortunate group who were so wrong in the beginning, are using that mistake as their justification for not being responsible today. Like wearing a badge.

The YouTube videos of mindless rants inside stores by people who have no emotional filters or intellect is a sad reminder that we are at the mercy of those who believe that "they are right and the rest of us are wrong".

These people are known as the 2 percenters. 98% of the world's population are governed by the actions of the 2% who cannot see any way beyond their own.

A life lesson; if the store you are about to enter has a rule about wearing masks, either put one on or turn around and go somewhere else.

What's going to happen here is the mask rule will be posted on the entry doors of establishments alongside the rule that says "No shirt, No shoes, No service". That is also a rule and it is enforceable. Their business, their rules.

Bottom line; there is still a lot to be learned about this novel Coronavirus. Its behaviour is different from what has been experienced in the past and right now, there are thousands of brilliant people who are working diligently to find a way out.

So, until that day, what is the harm in wearing the mask? Why has this simple act become a symbol of oppression for so many? Why can't you make the "sacrifice" as a show of good will toward your fellow man?
Put the "you can't tell me what to do" attitude away and be responsible.

Lots of you think that this whole thing is one big conspiracy.

What if it's not? (hint; it's not).

Wearing a mask won't kill you. Not wearing one just might.
