A pedestrian hit by vehicle in downtown Vernon has died

UPDATE: 6:47 p.m.

The road has been cleared between 29 Avenue and 32 Avenue, following a fatal accident involving a pedestrian and vehicle in downtown Vernon.

Vernon RCMP attended the scene at approximately 3:43 p.m., following reports of a pedestrian being struck while jaywalking.

RCMP Collision Analysts and BC Coroners Service attended the scene. 

"As the investigation into this incident is on-going no further information will be released," says Cpl. Tania Finn with the Vernon RCMP.


UPDATE: 4:33 p.m.

There are unconfirmed reports a person has died after being struck by a vehicle in downtown Vernon Friday afternoon.

Vernon RCMP have closed the southbound lanes of 32nd Street between 30th and 31st avenues and cordoned off the area with police tape.

Castanet has reached out to the RCMP for comment.


ORIGINAL STORY 4:08 P.M.

There are reports a pedestrian has been struck by a vehicle in downtown Vernon Friday afternoon.

Numerous ambulance crews, police and firefighters are on the scene at the intersection of 32nd Street and 30th Avenue.

Witnesses tell Castanet ambulance crews were seen performing CPR on a person in the southbound lane of the road.

Castanet will have more information as soon as it becomes available.
