UPDATE 4:55 p.m.

Kelowna Fire Department Platoon Captain John Kelly tells Castanet they received a report of injured hikers at 12:15 p.m.

The 911 report indicated that two people had fallen and needed assistance at Canyon Falls Park in Kelowna’s Crawford area. "The first arriving officer did an assessment and made patient contact. It was determined that a technical rescue would be required to extricate them from the Canyon," Kelly says.

"The KFD Technical rescue team was dispatched to the scene and managed to rescue two patients, one male and one female. The male was able to walk to the top of the canyon with our assistance." The female was transported using a basket stretcher with a wheel, while the man walked out on his own.

"We would like to remind hikers to stay on the marked trails," Kelly says.

UPDATE 3:47 p.m.

Kelowna Fire Department rescue crews have managed to transport two injured hikers out of Canyon Falls Park.

The woman fell about 50 feet and needed to be carried out of the canyon while the man suffered minor injuries and was able to walk out under his own power.

Kelowna Fire Department Platoon Captain, John Kelly tells Castanet it was a difficult rescue because of the location where the incident happened, "it wasn't an easy place to get to and we had to use seven members of our technical rope rescue team to get her to safety."

Both injured hikers are being treated at the scene in waiting BC Ambulances before they are transported to Kelowna General Hospital for further treatment.

UPDATE 2:22 p.m.

The Kelowna Fire Department has now established that there are two people involved in the rescue, one man and one woman, the man is not injured and is able to walk while the woman needs assistance.

Rescue crews are set up at Canyon Falls Court and they have made their way to the injured parties with a stretcher and are preparing to lift them out as of 2:15 p.m. Wednesday.
