Pair of Kamloops Blazers make NHL Central Scouting watch list

2 Blazers on scouting list

It's only been a few weeks since the 2020 NHL Draft saw the likes of Connor Zary and Dylan Garand get picked up by NHL teams, but a pair of Blazers is already on the scout watch list for next year.

NHL Central Scouting has put Kamloops-product Logan Stankoven and Surrey's Caeden Bankier on their watch list for the 2020-21 season.

Both hockey players are 17; when next year's draft occurs they'll be 18. As 16-year-olds last season, both had strong years.

Stankoven was particularly impressive, scoring 29 goals and assisting 19 times for 48 points in 59 games as a rookie in the WHL. He went on to be named the WHL's western conference rookie of the year. He's been listed as a 'B' prospect, which means he's a candidate for the second or third round.

Bankier, who put up seven goals and 13 assists in 55 games last season, is a 'C' prospect. That puts him as a candidate for the fourth, fifth or sixth round.

This year three Blazers were picked by NHL teams: Connor Zary went to the Calgary Flames in the first round, goalie Dylan Garand was selected by the New York Rangers in the fourth round and new Blazer (he hasn't planned a game in the blue-and-orange yet) Viktor Persson was picked up by the Vancouver Canucks in the seventh.
