Eddie's guitars go for $422K

Three Eddie Van Halen guitars were sold for more than $422,000 at auction.

The late rocker's customised Kramer electric guitar sold for $231,250, while his 2004 EVH Charvel Art Series electric guitar fetched a winning bid of $140,800. And a prop guitar used by child actor Bryan Hitchcock to play a young Eddie in Van Halen's Hot for Teacher video sold for $50,000 at Julien's Auctions' annual Icons & Idols Trilogy: Rock 'n' Roll Auction.

Among the other 900 items sold during the auction included two Fender guitars smashed by Nirvana legend Kurt Cobain, which fetched a combined $281,600, and an acoustic guitar played by and signed by Paul McCartney sold for $54,400.

Guitar icon Eddie Van Halen lost his battle with cancer in October, following a storied career that saw him live life in the fast lane on and off stage.
