The ENMAX Centre is gearing up to host the 2022 curling competition

Lethbridge hosts 2022 Brier

The ENMAX Centre in Lethbridge is gearing up to host the 2022 Tim Hortons Brier, Curling Canada announced Friday.

The Alberta city previously hosted the 2019 World Men's Curling Championship, the 2012 World Women's Curling Championship, and the 2007 Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

The Brier is considered to be one of the country's most esteemed curling competitions as the winner goes on to represent Canada in the World Curling Championships. CTV News reports that the teams included in the tournament will represent each province and territory, with two from Ontario.

The 2021 Brier will happen on March 5 to 14 in Calgary with COVID-19 protocols put in place. This year's defending champion will play as Team Canada. Kelowna was originally supposed to host it, but it was moved to the venue on the grounds of Canada Olympic Park due to the pandemic.

Lethbridge's Brier is set to take place in March 2022, dates and details have not yet been announced.

Kelowna has agreed to host a future Curling Canada championship, but there's no telling when that might be. The Rockets could be in line to host the 2023 Memorial Cup. They were also unable to host this year because of the pandemic.

In an interview with Castanet in December, the city's event development supervisor, Chris Babcock, said the city bid specifically on the 2021 event because it was the year before the Olympics when teams are at their peak.

Taking that into consideration, 2024 or 2025 might be more likely.
