A man charged with attempted murder following a “disturbing” attack on a clerk in a Kamloops liquor store has pleaded guilty to lesser charges.
William Paul Bolton, 34, was arrested on March 20, 2020, the day after an employee at the U District Liquor Store was slashed during a robbery.
Police were called to the liquor store over the lunch hour on March 19, 2020, for a report of a robbery. They arrived to find a clerk with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
“This robbery involved a disturbing level of unprovoked and unnecessary violence,” Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Simon Pillay said in a news release at the time.
Bolton was arrested the day after the robbery after a resident on Arrowstone Drive in Sahali called police to report a suspicious person in their yard.
Bolton, who has been in custody since his arrest, pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated assault and robbery. He is expected to be sentenced in B.C. Supreme Court during the week of March 29.
