Minor diesel spill after transport truck crashes south of Quesnel

Truck crashes down bank

A small amount of diesel spilled into a creek after a transport truck crashed south of Quesnel on Highway 97 this morning.

The truck jackknifed at about 8:45 a.m. and entered the ditch, prior to travelling about 200 metres down a steep embankment before colliding with a tree.

The truck and trailer did not roll over, but the fuel tank ruptured and leaked diesel into the Cuisson Creek. The Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Environment have been notified of the spill.

"It is very fortunate that the transport truck did not collide with a northbound vehicle prior to entering the ditch," said Sgt. Richard Weseen of the Quesnel RCMP.

"We want to remind drivers to slow down and drive appropriately for the weather and road conditions."

The driver was transported to the hospital with minor injuries by ambulance. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
