City releases this year's Spring Activity and Program Guide

Get active this spring

The City of Kelowna has released it’s 2021 Spring Activity and Program Guide, aligning with COVID-19 adapted recreation and cultural programs for all ages.

The programs are running from April to June and will feature online bookings at the Parkinson Recreation Centre for activities including pickleball, basketball, table tennis and access to the gymnasium, pool and fitness centre.

“We are glad to be able to provide safely adapted activities that are in line with the current public health orders,” says community and neighbourhood services manager Mariko Siggers.

“Whether it’s through a registered program, booking a space at Parkinson Recreation Centre or heading outdoors to explore our parks and trails, there are so many different ways to keep your mind and body active this spring.”

Registration opens next week here. This year’s activity guide will only be available online to ensure programs can be adapted as needed over the coming months by direction of provincial health orders.

Spring registration opening dates and times:

  • March 9 – General programs at 7 a.m.
  • March 10 – Sports leagues at 7 a.m.
  • March 11 – Aquatic programs at 7 a.m.
  • March 12 – Programs for persons with diverse abilities at 7 a.m.

In addition to registered programs, people can make a reservation through the online reservation system anytime, to book drop-in activities at the Parkinson Recreation Centre.

You can reserve a time-slot up to three days in advance for gymnasium activities and up to 14 days in advance for fitness centre and pool bookings.

Before making a reservation, you must have an online city recreation account. To set an account up, email [email protected] or call 250-469-8800.

COVID-19 safety protocols in place include wearing a mask throughout city facilities, reduced class sizes, social distancing, enhanced cleaning, signage and barriers.

“Based on the current public health orders in place, some program types including adult team-based sports and leagues and adult group fitness classes may need to be postponed or suspended if current public health orders are not lifted by the start of spring programs,” reads a statement from the city.

Updates on programs will be posted online.

“Kids sport programs are currently operating at Level 2 of via Sport’s Return to Sport Plan, with a focus on individual skills and drills rather than gameplay. Spectators are not currently permitted to attend indoor or outdoor programs.”
