Trudeau is to blame

Even though he never said the words "Go and attack the Capitol," many people (myself among them) believe that Donald Trump effectively instigated the riot in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 6.

And, even though he never said the words "Go burn down some Catholic churches," I believe that Justin Trudeau is just as guilty as Donald Trump.

By trying to pin all the blame for residential schools on the Catholic Church, and for "demanding" that the Pope come to Canada to apologize, Trudeau's careless rhetoric is having dangerous and potentially deadly consequences.

Are there no adults in the Prime Minister's Office? Did nobody realize that some idiots were going to take matters into their own hands?

When you are the prime minister of a supposedly serious country, your words have consequences, sometimes unintended ones, but consequences nonetheless.

Mr. Trudeau, if you don't believe that Canada is the best country in the world, in spite of shameful parts of our history and significant current problems, then step aside and let someone more genuine and sincere take over.

Stop the insincere apologies and the fake tears. Stop tearing the country down. Stop pitting one group against another.

Whether the topic is climate change, Quebec "nationhood," rural versus urban, Indigenous affairs, or racism, you, sir, are just as bad as Mr. Trump in promoting divisiveness.
