The RDOS has lifted some evacuation orders related to the Nk'Mip Creek wildfire.

Eight properties identified within the Nk’Mip Creek area of Electoral Area A are now under evacuation alert.

An Evacuation Alert means being prepared to evacuate your property immediately.

Residents will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to evacuations; you may receive limited notice due to changing conditions.

The Town of Osoyoos says evacuation alerts due to the Nk'Mip Creek wildfire will not be extended when they expire at midnight tonight.

Dozens of properties north of Highway 3, east of Cottonwood Drive and west of 45th street have been on alert for more than a week.

The Town does remain under a state of local emergency.

The Town of Osoyoos has extended its local state of emergency as work continues to battle the Nk'Mip Creek wildfire burning in the area.

The blaze, which sparked Monday July 19 between Oliver and Osoyoos and has been raging ever since, is estimated at 6,800 hectares officially but BC Wildfire Service representatives have said it is likely much larger. Exact mapping has been hindered by volatile fire activity and smoke in the air.

The Oliver Fire Department continues to assist with the battle, providing an update Tuesday morning that the wildfire continues to burn high up above the valley floor.

"The Oliver Fire Dept currently has a unit assisting BC Forestry outside of our protection area. In the meantime you may see some smoke and small fires burning in the area commonly referred to as “the black”, meaning areas that have already been burned off either naturally or in a back burn," they wrote on social media.

"Please refrain from entering these areas as tree roots are often compromised and can fall at anytime, in addition there are still many hotspots that can cause serious injury."
