A near miss between a scooter and a vehicle at the intersection of Ellis Street and Lawrence Avenue was caught on dash camera recently.
"He scared the s**t out of me. I'm not going to lie."
Rob Philip tells Castanet he was heading to a job downtown Sunday afternoon on Lawrence Ave. when the light turned green. Video from his vehicle's dash cam shows one vehicle clearing the intersection as a woman is crossing the street walking her dog.
"It was a full-blown red light and he went right through it, in front of a girl crossing the street."
Philip says, "the look on the girl's face says it all!"
There was another vehicle behind him who made an effort to pass him and almost ran right into the scooter as it was completing the left-hand turn off of Ellis St. going the wrong way on one-way Lawrence Avenue.
"A one-ton pickup just behind me in the other lane almost creamed this guy as he accelerated on a light that just turned green, but he managed to slam on the brakes just in time, I don't know how he managed to stop."
The scooter driver isn't wearing a helmet and didn't appear to slow down before making the dangerous manoeuvre.
"I used to think the scooter rental thing was fine but I'm really not sure anymore. Anyone can rent a bicycle or a car and drive like an idiot but at the end of the day, if it's going to be a detriment to the city, then we don't need them."
