95 of the 150 coronavirus cases confirmed Tuesday were in the BC Interior

150 new cases, no deaths

The majority of new COVID-19 cases confirmed by the provincial government Tuesday came in the Interior Health region.

B.C. has announced 150 new cases, with 95 of them in the Interior Health region.

The new cases bring the province’s total since the pandemic began to 149,259 cases, although just 783 remain active. Again, the majority of those being in the Interior Health region which now has 412 active cases.

Of the active cases in B.C., 44 individuals are in hospital and 22 are in intensive care. In the Interior Health region, there were just five people hospitalized as of Monday according to the BC CDC.

Health officials have said the majority of the Interior’s cases are coming in younger unvaccinated people.

There were no new deaths reported.

As of Tuesday, 80.7 per cent of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 62.3 per cent have received their second dose.

The new/active cases include:

  • 32 new cases in Fraser Health — Total active cases: 196
  • 17 new cases in Vancouver Coastal Health — Total active cases: 122
  • 95 new cases in Interior Health — Total active cases: 412
  • three new cases in Northern Health — Total active cases: 14
  • three new cases in Island Health — Total active cases: 35
