It’s another sign a fall election is likely.

The Liberal Party of Canada has acclaimed UBC Okanagan grad Tim Krupa as their candidate in the Kelowna-Lake Country riding.

After completing his undergraduate degree in biology at UBCO, Krupa worked for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for three years, including during the 2015 election campaign.

He went on to graduate studies at Oxford, worked for hedge fund Bridgewater, and now works for Canada Pension Plan Investments.

A biography on the UBC Alumni website said it was during his time at UBCO that Krupa started thinking about a political career after witnessing the events following the resignation of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarek.

“I was fascinated by the movement and the power of democratic mobilization. Tahrir Square was the voice of the people, and the uprising served as a healthy reminder that politics matter in Egypt, and at home,” he told the alumni homepage.

Conservative Tracy Gray is the current MP for Kelowna-Lake Country but has only held the seat since the last election in October 2019.
