Shooting by Burnaby sports complex sends one person to hospital

Shooting injures one

One person was sent to the hospital on Saturday afternoon after a shooting occurred near a youth sports complex in the Burnaby.

CTV News Vancouver was told by the Burnaby RCMP that officers are investigating the incident and police were called to the intersection of Sprott Street and Norland Avenue just after 4:30 p.m. for a report of shots fired.

Video at the scene captured by CTV News show the paramedics helping the victim onto a stretcher. The man appears to be conscious and moving around, while emergency crews look to be focusing on his leg. RCMP vehicles surround the area.

The area were the incident occurred is by the Scotia Barn - formerly known as 8 Rinks - and adjacent to the Burnaby Lake Sports Complex and the Christine Sinclair Community Centre.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Kalanj told CTV that he was unable to confirm the seriousness of the victim's injuries when responding.
