City says 'innovative' solutions identified for problem intersection at Eight Street, Ord Road

Intersection study progresses

City officials have come up with a number of “innovative” solutions to alleviate traffic problems at a major intersection linking the North Shore with Bachelor Heights, Brocklehurst and Westsyde.

When residents might get a look at what those ideas are, though, is not yet known.

The intersection of Eighth Street, Bachelor Hills Drive, Westsyde Road and Old Road is a problematic one for the city. In April, municipal officials announced they would study the area alongside ICBC.

During a committee meeting on Monday, City of Kamloops transportation manager Purvez Irani said the study is underway and progress is being made.

“We’ve come up with some solutions,” he said.

“We provided out comment to the consultant and ICBC has, as well. There’s some pretty innovative ways to improve capacity issues at that intersection and improve safety. So, in the next couple of months, we’ll be wrapping that report, as well.”
