Penticton FireSmart team supplying neighbourhoods with bins to dispose of hazardous fuels

Apply for a FireSmart bin

In an effort to get the area ready as a wildfire-prone environment before the fire season, Penticton FireSmart is inviting neighbourhoods to apply for bins to dispose of hazardous fuels.

The program will be supplying 15 bins to eligible neighbourhoods within the city to support wildfire resiliency.

Disposal of fuels is focused around zone 1, which stretches up to 10 meters from the homeowner's property.

The extremely volatile fire season this past summer led to an increase of interested residents throughout the Okanagan-Similkameen with the FireSmart programs.

Logan Lake is referenced as a shining example for other communities to follow in the footsteps of, after years of fire planning helped save the community last August from a fast-moving wildfire.

Neighbourhoods interested in applying for the bins will need to submit an application, which will then be reviewed and priority for the recipients will be determined by the areas with wildland urban interface.

Applications can be found on the city's website here or by contacting the Penticton FireSmart team at [email protected]

Completed applications, plus the necessary attachments must be email to [email protected] before Feb. 15, 2022.
