Staffing shortage prompts another temporary closure of Clearwater emergency department

Clearwater ER closing again

A staffing shortage is once again prompting the closure of the emergency department at Clearwater’s hospital, Interior Health says.

According to the health authority, the emergency department at Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital will close at 6 p.m. on Tuesday and reopen at 7 a.m. on Wednesday. The department is typically open 24 hours a day.

IH said it “regrets this temporary change to normal operations.” Anyone in the North Thompson in need of emergency medical care is encouraged to dial 911 or visit Royal Inland Hospital.

This is the 15th time staffing shortages have forced a temporary closure of the Clearwater emergency department since the beginning of April.
