Penticton Thanksgiving Food Drive launching again; looking for volunteers

Help community stay fed

The annual Penticton Thanksgiving Food Drive in support of the Salvation Army Food Bank is back, and volunteers hope for the community's help making sure no one goes hungry.

Every year, volunteers distribute specially printed paper donation bags to as many homes in Penticton as possible ahead of the holiday.

This year, they will be out dropping off bags Sept. 19-23. Donors simply fill the bags with non-perishable foods and leave them on their doorstep for volunteers to pick up on Saturday, Sept. 24 for delivery to the food bank.

In 2021, six tons of food were collected through the drive.

The organization is always looking for more help from anyone who wants to volunteer as a "friend of the food drive," dropping off and picking up donation bags.

Those who live in strata communities or apartment buildings can also help by receiving permission from their board chair or apartment manager to leave bags at the doors of their neighbours, or distribute bags to employees and coworkers and establish a common donation point.

Anyone with questions or who wishes to volunteer can call: Roger Ellingson (778 878-7360) or Dan Kane (250 328 8151).
