West Kelowna Warriors honour Truth and Reconciliation Day during home opener

Team honours First Nations

The West Kelowna Warriors will wear specially designed uniforms when they kick off the home portion of their 2022-2023 BCHL schedule on Truth and Reconciliation Day.

The Warriors will mark the occasion wearing special orange jerseys emblazoned with the "Every Child Matters" logo.

Fans attending the Sept. 30 home opener will have a chance to bid on each jersey as part of a silent auction with proceeds going towards the Residential School Survivors Society.

"We have the privilege of hosting our home opener on Truth and Reconciliation Day and help raise awareness for a very important message,” said Warriors president Chris Laurie.

“We hope our Every Child Matters jerseys help spark conversation and raise funds for the Residential School Survivors Society. We encourage all West Kelowna residents to come out and support the event."

Next Friday's game is part of home opening weekend, which will also include a tribute to former Warrior Parm Dhaliwal, who died tragically earlier this summer.

Dhaliwal will be remembered during a ceremony prior to the Saturday, Oct. 1 contest with the visiting Penticton Vees.

The Warriors kick off the regular season this weekend on the road. They open in Cowichan Valley Friday before concluding the two day trip in Victoria Saturday.
