UBCO golf looking for podium finish

UBCO golf eyes podium

Things are warming up for the UBC Okanagan Heat golf team.

Taking part in the Canada West Championships in Victoria, both the women's and men's teams are off to a good start, currently sitting in second and third place respectively.

Hitting the links at the Cordova Bay Golf Club, the women's team combined to shoot 12-over par, sitting four strokes back of the first place UBC Thunderbirds.

UBCO's rookie golfer Khushi Hooda sits alone in third place in the individual standings after shooting an even par of 71. Hooda sunk three birdies to cancel out her three bogies on the day.

Hooda is joined by three other Heat golfers inside the Top 10, including Kendra Jones-Munk and Kayleigh Trowman who are tied for sixth place, and Emily Cornwall who sits in eighth place.

Turning over to the UBCO men's team, they find themselves right in the mix for a podium finish, sitting at a combined seven-over par despite carrying four rookies.

Andrew Rouble, a rookie on the team, is leading the way for the Heat, along with senior Justin Towill of Kelowna. Both players shot identical rounds of one-under par (70) to sit in a tie for fourth place in the individual standings.

Rouble scored an eagle and four birdies, while Towill was a bit more steady, finishing the day with two birdies, a bogey and 15 pars.

Both teams are looking to lock down a podium finish in Tuesday's final round.
