Shemar Jack

A 21-year-old man from Toronto has been identified as the shooting victim who died in Richmond on Sunday night.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said that the fatal shooting of Shemar Jack appears to be a targeted hit in connection to the Lower Mainland gang conflict and is working with its partners to determine Jack’s connection to the area.

The Richmond News reported on Monday morning how residents heard shots ringing out Sunday around 11 p.m. in the area of Sunnymede Crescent, near Blundell and No. 3 roads.

Police revealed that two men were found at the scene with gunshot wounds. One was taken to hospital in critical condition while the other was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Investigators continue to canvass both scenes for witnesses and video. If you have information and have yet to speak to police, please contact IHIT,” said Sgt. Timothy Pierotti.

“If you have a vehicle with a dash camera, please check to see if it has any recordings. Some vehicle cameras record, even while the engine is off.”

On Monday, Surrey RCMP received a call at around 7:30 a.m. of a burnt vehicle in the 17000-block of 92 Avenue in Surrey. 

IHIT has taken conduct of that scene and is working to determine if it is connected to the homicide.
