Heavy snowfall warning for Trans-Canada Highway, Rogers Pass

Heavy snow for Highway 1

A heavy snowfall warning remains in effect for the Shuswap and Trans-Canada Highway east to the Alberta border.

Environment Canada says 5-10 centimetres of snow is expected in the Sicamous, Enderby and Lumby areas.

However as much as 20 cm is forecast to fall on the Trans-Canada, from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass.

The warning area includes the Columbia region, Kinbasket, North Thompson, Arrow Lakes - Slocan Lake, Kootenay Lake, McGregor, Yellowhead, and Yellowhead Highway.

Some locations may see even more snow.

"An arctic front moving across eastern British Columbia is bringing heavy snow to the region," Environment Canada says.

Snow is expected to ease late this afternoon.

"Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

"Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions."
