Injured dog that ran off into forest after being hit by truck home after 4 days in woods

Winston came home!

This dog's tale has a happy ending.

After Alysha Taylor's dog, Winston, was hit by a truck and ran off into the forest on Silver Star Mountain, Saturday, four days of searching commenced.

And Tuesday night, Taylor updated a viral social media post to say Winston is back home.

"I'm not sure it’s possible to put into words how beyond grateful we are. Thank you will never feel like it is good enough," Taylor said of all the help and concern that resulted from her post on the Vernon BC, Lost and Found Pets Facebook page.

Taylor's post had been shared more than 1,000 times after a bleeding and spooked Winston ran off into the woods in the Keddleston area off Silver Star Road.

Taylor says her husband followed a blood trail and found areas where the pet had bed down for the night ... "but after the second one, no tracks."

After possible sightings reported by others, Winston eventually made his way home.

"He is home! Rushed to vet and will update again after," Taylor updated Tuesday evening.

"We aren't sure where he came from, but so glad he found his way back home!" she added Wednesday.

The dog's lower jaw is fractured – but "given the adventure he's been on, he is one lucky boy," says Taylor.

"He otherwise just has a few scratches. He is one sad puppy with his new cone, but it will protect the wire that was placed to help his jaw heal over the next four weeks."

Taylor thanked all those who had "shared, commented and gave suggestions or well wishes and positive thoughts.... Huge thank you to everyone who spent time bundled up outside and driving around helping try to spot Winston."

She continued: "We have only lived in Vernon for one year. It did not take long for us to realize how amazing this community is. Feeling like the entire community was behind us (plus some distant ones) and the support offered and given, was more than we could have ever imagined."
