City of Penticton offering extra week of recycling pickup over holidays

More recycling for Xmas

The City of Penticton will be adding an extra week of recycling collection in anticipation of extra cardboard boxes, wrapping paper and more that may start to accumulate this holiday season.

Starting Monday, Dec. 12 and running until Friday, Dec. 30, residents can put both garbage and recycling carts out on their collection day by 7 a.m.

Christmas Day and New Year's Day both fall on weekends this year, so they do not impact the collection schedule.

Anyone with extra garbage or recycling that will not fit in their carts can purchase tag-a-bag stickers from City Hall, City Yards or the Community Centre.

As for recycling, be sure what you are adding to your blue bin is appropriate. Most paper and cardboard items like gift bags, wrapping paper, and paper backing from toy packaging can be included.

But products like electronics, ribbons, bows, and foil wrap cannot. Some may be able to be dropped off at a recycling depot.

To be sure your blue bin has appropriate material, check out the Penticton Recycling Wizard tool, online here.
