Police watchdog investigating man seriously injured during VPD arrest

Police watchdog called in

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIOBC) is looking into another incident in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside.

The police watchdog has been called upon to look into an arrest "which resulted in a serious injury to one man," according to the IIOBC.

It took place Tuesday, Dec. 6, around 8:45 p.m., according to a release from the provincial agency, when there was a request for assistance in the 300-block of Alexander Street.

A man was allegedly threatening others with weapons.

"It is reported that the man did not comply with police commands, and he sustained a serious but not life-threatening injury during his arrest," the IIOBC states.

The release does not state what type of injuries the man sustained, what type of weapon he had, or if a weapon was used by police to subdue him.

The IIOBC investigates all police incidents where someone is significantly injured. They're looking for witnesses to come forward and can be contacted via their website or by phone at 1-855-446-8477.

Police were called to the same area a couple of days prior when a man allegedly fired a gun in his apartment.
