One driver killed, another in hospital after two commercial trucks collide on Highway 5

Driver killed in Hwy 5 crash

DriveBC is reporting Highway5 has reopened.


UPDATE: 3:57 p.m.

A driver was killed Thursday in a collision involving two semi trucks on Highway 5 north of Kamloops.

According to police, emergency crews were called to a stretch of highway south of McLure just after noon.

The driver of one truck was killed and the other was taken to hospital.

The highway remains closed in the area. BC Highway Patrol Const. Mike Moore said it is not yet known when it will reopen.

“At this point in the investigation, there is no indication of any criminality as a contributing factor,” he said.


UPDATE: 1:03 p.m.

One person is in critical condition after a crash on Highway 5 just south of McLure.

The crash happened at about noon on Thursday. The highway has since been closed in both directions.

Const. James Ward of the BC Highway Patrol told Castanet the incident began when a semi jackknifed in the 9900-block of the Yellowhead Highway.

“There were no injuries from that, but then subsequently, a vehicle has driven into the jackknifed semi,” Ward said.

“The occupant of that vehicle has critical, life-threatening injuries and we don’t know if they’re going to survive.”

Highway 5 near McLure is closed in both directions after a crash early Thursday afternoon, according to DriveBC.

The highway is closed between Kealty Road and McLure Ferry Road.

"Crews are on scene. No detour is available," DriveBC said.


ORIGINAL: 12:06 p.m.

A collision just south of McLure is slowing traffic in both directions on the Yellowhead Highway, according to DriveBC.

The crash happened just before noon on Thursday.

DriveBC said crews are heading to the vehicle incident, which happened along Highway 5 about five kilometres south of McLure, and warned drivers to expect delays.
