There was a rare eight-ender at the Kelowna Curling Club last week

The rarest of curling feats

It's curling's version of a hole-in-one, or a perfect game in baseball.

The eight-ender doesn't happen every day and, when it does, it's a feat worth celebrating.

It happened during a competitive league game at the Kelowna Curling Club by the team of Gary Brucker, Shawn Mamchur, Jim Chrenek, Ian Lorimer during the Monday night men's league on Jan. 30.

Eight red rocks ring the house with one lone yellow biting at the back but not counting.

The feat is so rare the Canadian Curling Association recognizes it with special pins and certificates.

While there are no definitive odds of getting an eight-ender, because obviously there are two teams involved, it's estimated odds can be as high as one in 120,000.

Only one has ever been recorded at a Canadian championship, in 2015 by Lisa Jackson of PEI at the Scotties.

The eight-ender is described as being comparable to a hole-in-one in golf (12,000 to 1 for the average golfer), a no-hitter in baseball which happens on average once every 1,505 games, or being struck by lightning in your lifetime (1 in 5,000).
