'Armchair' traffic planning

Armchair planners are once again coming to rescue Kelowna from its traffic problems.

None of these proposals will significantly change traffic. In fact, they would likely create the opposite effect.

Because an increase in road capacity incentivizes more trips, it would result in more traffic. That is because car traffic is non-linear. To permanently solve this, new lanes need to be continuously built, which impractical.

There is only one solution to permanently reduce traffic in Kelowna—improved cycling infrastructure and public transportation.

If that is not done, we can all look forward to many more years of wasted time in traffic.
