Enjoying the respite

I can’t help but enjoy the opportunity to base myself out of the lovely mountain-town of Kaslo for more than a few weeks.

Last year was, as always, pretty frenetic and quite a few hundred thousand airmails later – here I am in a small town with a population of about 1,000 people and a cellphone that barely works – bliss!

Seriously it has been extremely busy but simply having the opportunity to dine out at a restaurant with my wife instead of on my own makes all the difference in the world. The time goes by more quickly. We discuss more important items face to face instead of on opposite continents, and we scheme about retirement.

Only a few more weeks and the travel will pick up. Fighting snow storms and delays, I probably will see Minneapolis airport more than a few times before summer arrives; no doubt I will overstay my welcome in an airport lounge after cancellations, stay in unfamiliar hotels and wake up in the morning wondering what country I am in, let alone what meetings I need to find my way to.

What makes it exciting and keeps me moving is the opportunity to see new places and make new friends. My newfound friend for the past few years has definitely been Delta Airlines, which was confirmed at the end of last year with the most abysmal transatlantic trip with British Airways who shortly after that were voted the worst airline in Britain by the British flying public. Delta, and frankly the rest of the SkyTeam alliance, really know how to help you feel like your investment in their airline is warranted and appreciated.

So off we go, headlong in to 2020 with only a looming Third World War on the horizon and ravaging wildfires half way around the world that definitely have nothing to do with climate change – tell the Australians it is cyclical and see what answers you get.

Have fun, keep your heads down and I hope your resolutions come true in 2020. I know mine will.
