Ashcroft RCMP say vehicle struck by train, driver walked away

Hit by train, walks away

Ashcroft RCMP are investigating after a train collided with a vehicle Thursday and the driver walked away with non-life-threatening injuries.

The man was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was taken to hospital for treatment, but has since been released.

The collision occurred near Old Cariboo Road and Tingley Street. The Mazda MX-3 the man was driving was heavily damaged.

"Initial indicators at the scene suggest that the vehicle was struck on the passenger side, by a southbound CN train," says a news release from Ashcroft RCMP. "The force of the impact from the train tipped the passenger car onto its driver's side, before it finally came to rest back on its wheels."

Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.

If you witnessed the event contact Ashcroft RCMP at 250-453-2216.
