Man who allegedly stole package from porch caught on camera

Porch thief caught on cam

RCMP are hoping to track down a Castlegar package thief who was caught on camera.

After realizing a package that was sent to him never actually arrived, the victim reviewed his home surveillance system and saw a person who appeared to have taken it off his porch on Dec. 17.

The man reported the theft to police on Jan. 15, and police have now released the footage to the public.

“Digital surveillance cameras strategically installed in doorways can greatly assist investigators in identifying suspects, and can effectively deter crime,” said Sgt. Monty Taylor.

“If local residents are expecting a package delivery while they are away from their home, police suggest that they seek the assistance of a trustworthy neighbour or ask the delivery driver to conceal the item in a pre-arranged location.”

The alleged thief is described by police as a Caucasian man who was wearing beige pants, a grey Under Armour hoody, a black hooded jacket, black gloves, black and white runners, and sunglasses over a black baseball hat.

Anyone who recognizes the man in the video can reach Castlegar RCMP at 250-365-7721.
