Kids can now do free online classes with the Vancouver Aquarium

Lessons from the aquarium

The Vancouver Aquarium has launched a new ‘online oceans’ program that lets kids take part in live streamed classes on everything from sharks to ocean plastics.

Created by the Aquarium’s animal experts and educators, children now have free access to a variety of DIY video tutorials, including how to make plastic-free glitter and tinted lip balm. Or they can get hypnotized by sea otters, jellyfish or penguins in one of the aquarium’s live animal web cams.

For small groups, teens and older kids, the Aquarium is also opening up its virtual “AquaClasses.”

Usually reserved for schools, the $45, 45-minute classes let you meet virtually with one of the aquarium’s educators in a live deep dive on such topics as careers in conservation or reptiles and amphibians.

“Multiple families can split the cost to take part in a single session, each from their own home computer,” says a spokesperson for the Vancouver Aquarium.
